A Schedule of OPPC Upcoming Photo Exhibits

(1) The next Oak Park Photo Club Exhibit will be in the main branch of the Oak Park Public Library in September 2012.

Prints are to be submitted at the last meeting in August (August 27, 2012).

The standard frame will be used (frame equal to Nielson style 15 in matte black, 16x20 inch.).

Use of either a neutral white mat or a black mat is acceptable for your picture.

There is no theme.

The Frame Warehouse knows the frame we use and will give you a discount if you tell them you are from the Oak Park Photo Club. Contact Debby Preiser

(2) In October we will be displaying pictures in the River Forest Public Library. This will be a small space, and pictures do not need to be the standard size or frame. because of the short time between shows, someone can display the same picture in both shows.

(3) In December we will be again doing a show at the Oak Park Arms. There will be a gallery show, which like the River Forest Library will not need to be the standard size or frame. However, do not exceed 16X20. As usual, there will be a reception and a “table top” display and sale.

Speaker Susan Rhomberg Monday Jan. 23rd

Oak Park resident Sue Rhomberg will share photographs she has taken on medical missions to Bolivia and Paraguay

Sue has traveled with doctors and nurses on medical mission teams with Solidarity Bridge, a not-for-profit organization that serves to heal and empower those in poverty. Her travels have taken her to Cochabamba and Coroico in Bolivia and Asuncion, Paraguay. Sue has captured photos of the missionary work from the waiting rooms to the medical clinics and the surgery suites, the indigenous people, the children, the landscape and the culture of these South American countries.

In addition to showing photos of her journeys, Sue will talk about her experience of photography in a 3rd world country, the challenges she has faced and the joy and generosity of the people that have been served by the missionary work.

Sue is a member of the Oak Park Photography Club.

Nov. 14 Meeting Moved to Cheney Mansion

It is unusual that an event comes up that usurps the OPPC meeting in the Veteran’s Room but it has happened for the November 14 meeting.

Our Monday Nov. 14th Photo Club meeting will be held at the Cheney Mansion between 7-9 p.m.

Address and Link to the Mansions web site:
The Cheney Mansion
220 North Euclid
Oak Park, IL 60302
Cheney Mansion.com

This is a great opportunity for a “club shoot”.

Earlier this week we had posted a portrait assignment. The portrait assignment stands but the slide show will be delayed until a later meeting, giving everyone more time to experiment.

The Mansion can be an ideal setting for portraits and we are hoping some members can bring appropriate lighting and give demonstrations on how they light for a portrait.

If portrait work is not to your liking, the Mansions 2nd and 3rd floors are very well suited to architectural and architectural detail photography.

As the meeting is in the evening a tripod is recommended as available light will be limited to the fixtures available.
